| Rides:
| 20000 km/year. In the aftermath of Paris-Brest-Paris '95 [a
1200+ km ride] when we did closer to 25000 kms, we haven't done so
many long events in '96 - 400 km being the longest. Like Zach
[Kaplan], me and Lisa have been carless for the last 5 years [though
we currently own a van] and use our bikes for commuting, touring
holidays, sport and leisure. Also like Zach, we do Ultra events,
albeit amongst other UK 'Audaxers' we are relatively low mileage
riders. Our mileage is made up of a c. 35 km round trip commute,
which we do 5-7 days a week but rarely, though sometimes, twice a
day - this increases during the summer because of the pleasure of
riding when we will do all sorts of detours on the way home. During
the week we also go out on evening fast rides either with competitive
types or solo, when typically I attemp to average c. 21 - 23 mph on
an undulating 20 - 40 mile ride. From March/April until October we
will do between 100 and 600 kms most weekends. Our other mileage
contribution is holiday touring which usually lasts between 1 and 3
months, during which time we average c. 100 kms/day. Most of our
friends, many of whom are fairly serious cyclists, regard us as
eccentric verging on maniacal ; -) We just enjoy riding our bikes
and all the pleasures that accompany that persuasion.
