Battle Mountain Speed Festival |

These pages are a compendium of images, messages and descriptions of the Speed Record attempts and achievements at Battle Mountain, in October 2000. The messages were posted by Matt Weaver and Sean Costin to various e-mail lists and to the HPVA. | Sam Whittingham cruises in the Varna Mephisto, a bike designed and built by Georgi Georgiev set a 200 Meter Flying start record for single rider human powered vehicles at high altitude. His time was 6.15 seconds (72.74 mph.) The previous World Record was set in September, 1992 by the Dexter-Hysol Cheetah at 6.51 seconds (68.72 mph.) | ![]() |
| Matt Weaver, racing his Kyle Edge camera bike, reported that he had his bike over 80mph, but shut down early due to some wind buffeting and concern over some bridge structures near the timing area. Matt ended up with at time of 6.44 sec (69.46mph), which breaks the previous Cheetah record as well. | ![]() |

| Andrea Blaseckie rode the Bibet Varna to a new womens record of 54.04 mph. The previous record was 51.84 mph at 8.630 seconds for the 200 meters. | ![]() |
