While all the basic "ingredients" of the latter
GNAT were already in place -- a folding frame;
suspension on all three wheels; above- seat- joystick- steering
and hammock seat -- there are two notable differencies in regard
to subsequent gnatiterations: the chassis of the
UR-GNAT is all metal, and rear suspension is of the
(early series) Moulton bicycle type, a rubber ball
pressing against a steel cup on the swingarm (compression;
whereas final suspension relies on tension). Chassis and swingarm
are held together by a strap with quick release buckle, and
the black round object beneath the seat is a plastic tube
protecting both runs of the chain.
