"Rear stays" are folded inwards, then the front boom is unscrewed in two places, and turned to rest against the tyre. Finally, the two wheels and other loose bits and ends are "bungee- corded" to the frame. The end result is of irregular pyramide shape; a volume that, if encased in fabric or plastic cover, would probably not raise any objections from even the most zealous train guards and other petty officials who don't understand their raison d'etre: that they exist at all to serve the public, not the other way around.
