The S&B has a 15 year design history starting with the HyperCycle and Turner LaidBack recumbents. It is a SWB USS recumbent. It fits in my Honda CRX without any disassembly (and that's a small car). I've had one for 3 months, so of course I'm biased. Here's why I bought one.

1. Price. The frame kit is $470 so I figured that for around $1000 I could get a decent setup with decent components.

2. The people. S&B worked very hard to build me a custom frame that met my needs (6' 3" and big ... at that time). They also build a tandem, so they incorporated many of the structural renforcements of the tandem into my Chrome Moly frame. For example the rear dropouts are quite overbuilt. I also needed custom handlebars and S&B went thru several revisions to "get it right" for my build. They will work with you and that's important.

3. The bike. Is fast and corners very well. It took me a week to feel comfortable, and after 3 months I have excellent slow and high speed stability (better than my old upright). I've got a 21 speed setup with a wide range that allows me to climb decently. The seat is molded fiberglass, which doesn't "flex" during hard climbing.

With a long design history behind the bike, S&B know where the frame stresses are. Some recumbent companies won't deal with larger riders, even going to the extreme of forcing releases to be signed for riders over 230 lbs. It's also a great looking bike at a decent price.

Enjoy,

William Volk

S∓B Heavy Duty bike. Built to carry up to 400lbs of rider and gear. Has been used by riders up to 385lbs without problems. S&B's steel single recumbents typically have 55% to 60% of their weight on the rear wheel. The bike costs around $945 (21 speed) depending on equipment. Picture is of my personal bike.

S&B Trike. Frame Kit is $665, 6 speed with rear drum brake is $910, 14 speed is $995 ... $240 for the additional dual front drum brake option. The picture is of the unpainted prototype. A nice riding, solid trike that's easy to get on and off of (USS). It has the same seat height as the S&B bikes. Internal hub rear brake and 6 or 7 speeds standard. S&B can equip the trike to your needs. Turns around in a very small area.
