The numbers I have calculated put the modern lead-acid battery at an energy density 1/80
to 1/100 that of gasoline. That is, you have to carry 80 lb or kg of batteries to get the
energy of 1 lb or kg of gasoline. Then when your batteies are flat, you still have to
carry them around. Pure carbos have an equivalent energy density to gasoline, they are
just more expensive per power unit once you get the sauce on them.
I'm not proposing gasoline engines, just bemoaning the present state of battery
technology.
