Ah, simple pleasures for simple minds such as my
own.
While fiddling around today in the studio, I discovered
that I could mount a good-sized plastic crate to the back
of the BikeE CT with just 5 bungee cords, no other
hardware. Hmmm, it's a K-Mart file crate, big enough to
hold two 12-packs of grain-derived beverages, and a ream of
printout paper. Maybe four 12-packs if there'd been a powerful
thirst, or two full of bags of groceries.
Unloaded, while zipping down the InterState shoulder, with
a slight tailwind, I was able to sustain a 18 mph (29 kmh)
average, maxed out at around 21 mph (35 mph). This hints the
carrier had little minimal impact on the bike's aerodynamics.
Biggee deal here is cost. The pack of bungee cords and
and crate cost less than ten "bux" total, yet provided the
same amount of cargo capacity provided by a pair of
paniers and a rack.
