Re: [workbike] opinions wanted

Mike and all,

Having worked with two wheeled, three wheeled, and trailers (still no
'four wheelers' in my life) I would have to say that... it depends. There
are so many factors! What are you hauling, where, how much can you spend,
distance, urban layout, etc..?
But my personal opinion, and I think we are all a little bias to the
vehicle we use, is that a nice two wheeled cargo bike is hard to beat for
general all around use. I have used my Long Haul to carry tons of cargo in
Eugene, Davis, and Sevilla, took it on a train from Spain to Germany, rode
single track in the Black Forest with a kid in a carseat up front, done bike
tours, thrown it into one and a half bike boxes and flown it back and forth
across the Atlantic... twice, moved everything I own with it, and most
importantly met 'mi media naranja' (the love of my life) when I gave her a
ride in it.
If I need more capacity I throw a trailer on it. If I just want to
cruise I go empty (I don't have a fiberglass container, which keeps it light
and more versatile). I love the capacity and ease of the tri-hauler I have
used and like how the Brox I rode felt but I think these bikes have more of
a limited use--- owning a cargo-cycle courier company I wouldn't be without
one for too long, but with another type of company or for personal use I
think it would be overkill.
      So, that's my opinion.
Am currently reading Cycling for Profit. Looks great! Makes me
jealous I didn't write it, but glad someone did! A must read for anyone
interested in starting up.
