European HPV Championships 1992 in München, Germany.
This picture better than any epitomizes the
essence of what HPV races
really are for: a chance for bystanders to see with
their own eyes these Magnificent Men and Women with their
Extraordinary Advanced Biking Machines. Peek under the
hood, make sure they are pedal- driven; mingle with the
Stars.
Fortunately, the
field of HPV racing is a niche sport, ergo those participating in
it do it for the sheer joy of it, not for the money. Which means
that their enthusiasm is boundless, highly contagious, thus at
times capable even of affecting mere Couch Potato / Remote
Control Pilots . Been there, done that sort of thing.
Or, had it done to me, as it were.
The rest of this
mini-web is about these Maginificent Men and Machines in Munich,
which also happened to be the first HPV competition that I ever
attended... because of it taking place in for me rather
inaccessible part of the once- Olympic Village, 40 km outside of
the city, and other factors, sadly for one day only, and not the
second. Though just a static, color- reduced, dithered glimpse of
the Real Thing, imagine what it felt to see all these bikes in
full NaturalColor[tm]
motion!
