Roulandt, Chinkara, and Flevo, three Dutch recumbents.
Another unusual Flevehicle
spied by me in the workshop in 1992 was this
obvious Industrial Design degree project, with an objective
to demonstrate a human- powered van for, by the looks of it,
inhouse post gathering and distribution. The trunk contains
a rack for up to 4 standard- size plastic trays, of
which the fifth hangs behind the seat. Because of its rather
favourable weight distribution ratio, this Flevan is probably more stable, than the
others from its stable[sic!]. Thus this construction does have
some merit, might have worked. We'll probably never know for
sure, however, because student projects like that, even rideable
prototypes, seldom progress beyond the proof- of- concept
stage.
