Wind Power in The Netherlands.
Though it wasn't too windy that very day
(acc. to Nop), it was windy enough for him to demonstrate the
forces at stake, when he was able to jump a meter and
a half up in the air, by "raising" himself with both hands,
while allowing the rest of the body to go limp (or something,
I didn't investigate closer). Impressive, to say the least.
I'm not sure of the application, but, as long as it makes someone
happy. . .
Apart from buggies,
and his life as a professional kite designer and manufacturer
--as with so many other leisure activities, kite flying has become
big enough sport, to support a whole industry; shops, dealer
and distributor networks, own magazines and whatnot-- and other
sideline interests (he has co-authored a book on kites and
aerial photography Fotograferende
Vliegers), Nop also has undertaken a 2-year long
journey by recumbent in the USA, Korea and Japan. On homebuilt
recumbents, of course.
I first heard about
that Nop and Michèle's grand recumbent tour --possibly the
longest such international of all recumbent tours to date-- on the
Internet, and from no less a technomad, than Steve Roberts himself.
Apparently, when they met, Nop mentioned to Steve that, as they
carried and flew kites whenever they could, they also managed to
sell a few pictures to onlookers, farmers interested in
seeing their homesteads from the air etc. This led Steve to
generalize, that one could easily support oneself on a world
grand tour by selling such services.
This is is not the
place to dispute that in depth, but I'd be wary of trying to
whisper "aerial" and "kite" and "photography" in the same breath
in any place, where the first, and, especially , the
second, smack of espionage and evil spirits.
