With Season 8, Diablo 4 also introduced a complete overhaul to its seasonal battle pass system. Now called The Reliquary, this new model modernizes the reward structure and gives players significantly more control over their progression.

Unlike traditional battle passes where rewards are unlocked in a fixed sequence, The Reliquary allows players to redeem their earned points in any order—mirroring systems found in games like Call of Duty. This shift makes the experience far more player-friendly, letting users prioritize the cosmetics or utility items they want most.

There are four different Reliquaries this season: one is available for free to all players, while the others are part of paid tiers. These offer exclusive rewards, including weapon skins, mounts, pets, and armor sets. This structure not only incentivizes progression but also caters to cosmetic collectors who want to further customize their experience.

This change signals Blizzard's broader shift toward player agency. The studio is clearly learning from other live-service models and integrating those lessons into Diablo’s darker, loot-driven universe. The result is a seasonal experience that feels more rewarding and less grindy, while still preserving the depth and brutality the series is known for.
