Informal profiles of recumbent / bike riders    A-C  D-G  H-L  M-R  S-V  W-Z  all

Here is the 1996 HPV-list member/ bike rider profile survey. This "grassroots" project started innocently enough, when someone here remarked on the apparent high frequency of beards in our midst, and their possible negative --or-- positive effects on the aerodynamics of riding a bike (QUICK!, someone please write that deep background cyclomath treatise on the hirsute boundary layer and air resistance dampening effect directly attributable to Continental- style grooming).
Soon others started to flesh out their beard/ no-beard info with biographical detail, and me-too postings started to flow. Bit by bit it acquired a life of its own, and grew into a modestly- half- serious, enthralling collection of personal notes; still, at 195+ replies out of 250- something names on the HPV mailing list, (very high reply- frequency), hardly a laughing matter!
Current tally of  254  rider profiles is the product of data amassed in December 1996 by Shari Bernhard, and later by myself, merged  with 46 entries from a 1995 survey of similar scope posted by Ed Eybel (... for reasons of brevity I chose not to include all the fields from it).
The older entries are distinguishable from the recent ones by their detailed "Crash:" [crash history] field, which was not among the items surveyed now; though perhaps it should have been (the 1999, 2002, 2005 and subsequent polls will of course all correct that oversight (or else)). There was also an overlap of 16 individuals, who participated on both occassions.

To alleviate memorizing records are uniformly named after their listees , thus accessible directly as

www.ihpva.org/HPVpeople/Lastname.html

(where needed with a distinguishing capital initial letter, "LastnameI.html"). Riding partners, spouses/ siblings/ offspring, also of different names, are grouped together in their principals' files. Everybody is listed individually in the indices, however.

Updates and additions are welcomed and, in fact, solicited. Please fill out this pre- filled form. A major update is planned for the Fall of 1997. Thank you for participating.
