Photo Album: Land

 

My name is Chris Dreike. I was one of the builders of White Lightning in the late 1970's along with Don Guichard and Tim Brummer (of Lightning Cycles in Lompoc, CA). We were the winners of the $3000 Abbot prize offered by Dr. Allan Abbot for the first vehicle to exceed 55mph. Additionally White Lightning was the first vehicle to officially exceed 50mph, 55mph and 60mph. We were published in the 1980 Guinness Book of Records. The fastest speed attained by the vehicle in competition was 61.04mph at Ontario Motor Speedway. This picture probably taken in 1978. I recognize the quad too, isn't it a front picture of the Darby xxx? (I (BW) can't remember the model name, but if I (BW) remember right, that's made by Darby). (roneal@lexmark.com)
