following general information and plans for the 2002
IHPSC:
The first stop for everyone going to the World Championships in Brantford should be the new Brantford Tourist Center, located at the Highway 403 exit at Wayne Gretzky Parkway, North. Participants and spectators can pick up information at any time they are open, and entry packets Monday and Tuesday nights. The Tourist Center is open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily. If you arrive after it is closed there will be information posted in the window about the events. Need information by phone? Their telephone number is 1 800 265-6299; or 519 751-9900
Event Registration will be at the Tourist Centre Monday night August 5 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. and again on Tuesday night 7-9 p.m. After that a registration table will be available at each day's events.
"Ticket to Ride" Procedure
We are trying something new in an attempt to avoid some common mistakes I've made in the past. This year each competitor pays the basic entry price ($37.74 in U.S. funds, which equals $60 in Canadian dollars) and then buys the number of tickets that he/she thinks they will use ($6.30 in U.S. funds each, which equals $10 in Canadian dollars). More tickets can be bought during the championships at the Registration table. The tickets need to be filled in with entry number, class and the event to be entered.
At the beginning of the race day, or any time before that class starts, the competitor gives his/her ticket to the Scorekeeper. This way we can keep an accurate record of who is in each event, and what class of bike they are riding in that event.

The workshops and ride on Tuesday, August 6 are free and open to anyone.
Workshops:
When: 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Where: Mohawk College, Brantford.
Steve Robson will talk about the basic principles behind getting a basic recumbent bike together using recycled bike parts. He will get into the basic geometries needed to put together and talk about the good and bad points of building your own recumbent.
John Tetz will lead a workshop on his ultra light Zote Foam streamliner shells.
George Leone will discuss making fairings using molds, carbon and Kevlar, vacuum bagging, using foam ribs for rigidity, etc. George has been involved with creating full fairings since 1980 -- both his own and with the Cal Poly San Luis Obispo HPV Team.
Ride/Raft Trip
What: Group ride from Mohawk Park to Brant's Crossing trailhead.
Planned Welcome to Brantford by City Officials then, ride of approximately 20 km to Paris on Trans Canada Bike Trail.
In Paris riders have the option of returning to Brantford via bike trail, or returning by raft down the Grand River. The rafting option costs Cdn $25 (U.S. $16) per person, paid directly to the rafting people.
When/Where:
· Group leaves Mohawk Park at 1:30; · Ride leaves Brant's Crossing trailhead approximately 2:30. · Rafts leave Paris approximately 3-4 p.m. and arrive at the Brant Park campground approximately 7-8 p.m. · For those not taking the Raft ride there is an optional street tour of Paris leading back to the trail off Dundas Street · There will be a refreshment booth at the raft launch area and water stands along the trail.

LODGING: The race headquarters will be at the Brantford Holiday Inn, where a block of rooms has been reserved for participants. Camping sites have been reserved at the Brant Conservation Area, which is adjacent to the boat competition area and adjacent to the Trans Canada Bike Trail. GETTING AROUND: All event venues except the sports car track are within a 20 minute bike ride of the campsite and the hotel. There will be transportation available from Brantford to/from the sports car track on Wednesday for those who need it. LOCATION: Brantford is located in southern Ontario, Canada. It is about an hour south of Toronto, a hour northwest of Buffalo New York and two hours east of Detroit, Michigan. Nearest International Airport is Toronto-Pearson. We are working on getting transportation for competitors and their bikes to/from Toronto Airport for those who need it. Toronto Motorsports Park is located in Cayuga (40 km south of Brantford. 2002 IHPSC Classes/Rules
revised 7/02
The following Classes and Rules are HPRA rules with a few modifications to fit the IHPVA rules. The classes are named Class A, B, C & D so that we can issue one number and a letter to denote class. The corresponding HPRA class name is in parentheses.
Class D (HPRA Stock Class; unfaired)
· Vehicle may not incorporate any form of fairing or part of a fairing.
· Any number of wheels allowed. Wheel discs/covers are allowed.
Class C (HPRA Super-Stock Class; partially-faired)
· A front OR a rear fairing is allowed. The edge of the fairing toward the rider may not penetrate the imaginary plane formed by joining the rider's shoulder centerpoints with hip centerpoints.
· No part of the fairing may be moved in entering, exiting, starting or stopping.
· Any number of wheels allowed. Wheel discs/covers are allowed. Any number of riders, male or female.
Class B (HPRA Super-Street Class; GT or semi-faired) (revised)
· Vehicle incorporates more fairing than allowed in Class C.
· Rider must be able to enter and exit, start and stop unassisted.
· The rider shall have 360 degree vision (the forward 210 degrees by direct vision; the rear 150 degrees can be accomplished by mirrors or other devices).
· Forward visibility is defined as being able to see an object on the ground 10 (10) meters in front of the front tire.
· Any number of wheels allowed. Wheel discs/covers are allowed. Any number of riders, male or female.
Class A (HPRA Streamliner and Unlimited Classes; fully-faired)
Any amount of fairing is allowed.
Any number of wheels allowed. Wheel discs/covers are allowed.
Any number of riders, male or female.
Fairing panels may be moved for entry, exit, starting, or stopping.
Vehicles do not need to be capable of self-start/self-stop.
All faired vehicles that do not fit Class C or Class B will race as Class A.
If no special points class is created, the above groups will race as part of the A,B,C,D classes.
Tandems: Defined as a vehicle having 2 or more riders (male and/or female).
Junior: Riders are male or female 16 years old or younger.
Women: Rider is female of any age. Girls 16 or under can choose to compete in the Womens class or the Juniors class, but not both.
1) Power: Vehicles must be driven solely by human power. Non-human power sources (batteries, solar cells, etc.) are permitted only for powering sensors, displays, communica-tions equipment and lights. Control devices, cooling fans, powered aerodynamic devices etc. may not be powered from non-human sources.
2) Energy Storage - No device which stores energy over more than one input power cycle (e.g. one leg stroke) or which releases energy under control of the operator, may be used in any event except the road race, or speed events longer than one mile. Energy storage devices are permitted in these events provided no energy is stored before the start of the race (this means absolutely no chemical, electrical kinetic, potential or other form of energy storage at the start.)
3) Helmet. All riders must wear an un-modified helmet that has a sticker showing compliance with one of the nationally recognized (any nation) testing organizations.
4) Tech. Inspection. All vehicles must pass technical inspection before entering into practices or races. All vehicles must be able to pass the same technical inspection after any event. Vehicles may be disqualified from competition due to inadequate braking capability, lack of stability, poor visibility, presence of dangerous protrusions, or other unsafe design features.
5) All riders must be able to start, stop, enter, exit their vehicles without assistance, except Class A bikes.
6) All vehicles must have a safe means of stopping. Multiple, fully active, independent brake circuits are encouraged but not required.
7) Vehicles are encouraged, but not required, to have one or more mirrors demonstrating rear vision to both sides.
8) Vehicles with open, forward-facing chain rings are encouraged to protect the chain ring with a guard (i.e. a conventional chain guard, or polycarbonate disc).
9) Questions regarding placement in classes will be decided during the vehicle safety inspection. In the event of a protest regarding the classification of a vehicle, the class shall be determined by a vote of an odd number of competitors of that class (excluding the vehicle/rider in question.
10) Entrants must use supplied number. These numbers will be on removable label material. Number must be placed on each side of the vehicle, not the rider, and must be clearly visible. If you wish to substitute a number graphic on a fully faired bike, permission to do so must be obtained in writing, in advance of the race.
11) Riding two bikes means paying two bike entries and receiving two numbers.
12) In mass start events, vehicles requiring launch/capture crews will start at the back of the pack.
13) Control - All vehicles must be controlled solely by the rider(s) with the single exception of that necessitated by the standing start.
14) Integrity. No vehicle may discard any part after beginning motion.
